CWT Herd Retirement Bid Calculator

The purpose of this calculator is to assist you in developing a bid to participate in the CWT herd retirement program. Successful bidders under this program will market all cows to slaughter and will retain all proceeds from the sale of their cows to slaughter. Bids should reflect the producer's estimated value of his or her herd as milking cows less the slaughter value of the cows, expressed on a per hundredweight basis of the herd's twelve-month milk marketings. The maximum bid CWT will consider is $5.25 per hundredweight.

To help you prepare a bid, you can enter your own figures in the worksheet below. If you are using this calculator on a computer, you only need to enter numbers for items 1., 2., 4., 5., and 9., where the instructions start with the word "Enter", and the bid calculator will do the math for you. If you are using this calculator in paper form, follow the instructions given for each line.

1.	Enter the total number of milking and dry cows in your herd:		head
2.	Enter your estimate of the average value per cow of the cows in your herd:	$	per cow
3.	Multiply line 2. by line 1. This is your estimate of the total value of your herd:	$

10.	Divide line 9. by 100. This is your milk marketings in hundredweights:		cwt.
11.	Divide line 8. by line 10. This is your estimate per hundredweight of the value of your herd less the slaughter value using this bid calculator. While you are free to bid any amount, CWT will not consider any bid in excess of $5.25 per hundredweight:	$	per cwt.
