| 2011 Export Assistance Strategic Business Plan Strengthening markets at home by selling more products abroad |
CWT, working with the U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC), has updated the Export Assistance Strategic Business Plan for the two-year period of 2012 and 2013. The objective of the business plan is to build and protect long-term export markets for U.S. products which have the most positive impact on producers margins.
The markets that have been identified have excellent potential for increased sales of cheese and butterfat. The original business plan encouraged CWT members to develop long-term business relationships for these U.S. dairy products with the goal of continuing sales without CWT assistance. The updated plan will continue that effort as well as help CWT members to protect market share achieved with past CWT assistance.
This focused approach makes sense. The world demand for dairy products is growing at a rate eight times faster than the U.S. domestic market. Significant market opportunities exist in the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia. Countries with huge populations like China and India are experiencing tremendous growth in their middle class populations. As these grow, the demand for dairy products grows with it.
To provide the optimum benefit to dairy producers both in the short and long term it is critical that funds for the CWT Export Assistance program be utilized as effectively as possible. The Export Assistance Strategic Business Plan will assist in achieving that.
